SUMMARY:Science Can't Wait: A Webinar Series with Salk Institute
DESCRIPTION:Science Can’t Wait: A Discovery Series with the Salk Institute\n\n\nThe Salk Institute and the Del Mar Foundation invite you to join us for “Turning the Immune System Against Breast Cancer\,” the final installment of the Science Can’t Wait three-part webinar series\, a live conversation exploring how the immune system can be harnessed to find and disable breast cancer cells\, with the goal of developing treatments that provide long-lasting protection against the disease. \n\nUse the button below to register for this event.\nREGISTERYou will be provided the Zoom link upon registration.\nThe Del Mar Foundation is partnering with the Salk Institute to produce a 3-part state of the art webinar series surrounding the message of “Science Can’t Wait”.  Dr. Emily Manoogian will present the first webcast on January 28\, 2026 at 10 AM on long-term cognitive resilience. She will explore the roles that circadian rhythm\, healthy sleep\, and metabolic health contribute to a healthy brain. \nThe origin of the “Science Can’t Wait” program evolved over the last year as once stable National Institute of Health (NIH) budgets were dramatically cut with many grant funds suspended or placed on hold.  This created chaos and uncertainty with many basic science and healthcare labs halting or severely curtailing current investigations.  If prolonged\, the funding cuts could result in loss of not only key personnel\, but a brain drain of principal investigators out of San Diego (and even the US)\, resulting in delay or loss of important scientific and health achievements.  Expectations for the 2026 Federal budget are for possibly 40% reductions in these once stable NIH allocations. \nThe Del Mar Foundation has issued a challenge grant and will match online donations to the Salk Institute\, up to $50\,000\, during the “Science Can’t Wait” webinar series.  These donations will be used to support the Salk Institute’s laboratory costs.  Equally important\, the Salk Institute and the Del Mar Foundation want to raise public awareness regarding this issue.  The importance of the scientific community to our local economy and to our collective health cannot be overstated. \nDaniel Hollern\, PhD – Assistant Professor\nDr. Hollern merges two disciplines—computational biology and cancer immunology—to identify where tumors are vulnerable and how they can be therapeutically controlled by the immune system. \nHis goal is to uncover how part of the immune system (called B cells) operates. He wants to translate these findings into strategies that use B cells to disarm tumor cells and provide long-term protection against cancer.

SUMMARY:DMFTalk: The Great AI Inversion\, Cheap Models to Scarce Judgement
DESCRIPTION:Sudeepto Roy\nVice President\, Engineering\nQUALCOMM\nThe Great AI Inversion\,\nCheap Models to Scarce Judgement\nThursday\, April 9\, 2026\n6:00pm – 8:00pm\n6:00pm: Wine & Light Refreshments\n6:30pm: DMFTalk\nTOWN HALL\nDel Mar Civic Center\n1050 Camino Del Mar\nUse the button below to reserve your seat for this free speaker event\nREGISTERThe Great AI Inversion” is here: intelligence is a commodity and human judgment is the new scarcity. As this shift reorders software\, logistics\, finance\, and more\, join Del Mar resident and tech expert\, Sudeepto Roy\, to explore the transition from “Big Brains” toward deliberate reasoning\, agentic action\, and the quest for a better world model. We will analyze the 2026 landscape\, from the “Thermodynamics Wall” of insatiable power demand to the critical pivot toward Edge AI and the distributed digital nervous system. As AI tunes out entry-level roles and hollows the professional middle\, the only durable moat is human accountability that no autonomous agent can replicate. This talk frames our evolution from digital abstractions into a future bounded by physical constraints and human responsibility. \nSudeepto Roy\nSudeepto\, as a Vice President of Engineering at Qualcomm\, is passionate about leveraging connectivity\, computing\, and AI to enhance lives and industry\, through a tech career spanning corporations\, startups\, universities\, and governments. \nIn Del Mar\, Sudeepto is committed to community service\, advocating for education\, sustainability\, equity\, and gun violence prevention. He serves on the board of the Del Mar Foundation and volunteers at non-profit schools. \nHe holds computer engineering degrees from MS University and Old Dominion University\, with advanced studies in IPR\, management\, and AI from UCSD\, Caltech\, and MIT. \nViews expressed are those of the speaker alone and do not necessarily reflect those of his employer or other affiliations.

Joining them on fiddle is Joe D’Esposito (also formerly of The Railsplitters)\, adding an extra spark of virtuosity and old-time flair to their already dynamic sound. The Trio captures listeners’ hearts with their sincerity\, musicianship\, and unmistakable chemistry. \nThis event is now sold out. The ticket sales button has been removed. \nBuy Tickets Using the Orange “Add to Cart” Button below. Use the drop-down menu above the orange “Add to Cart” button to select the type and number of tickets you wish to purchase. Want to buy more than 2 tickets? Add one order of “Two Tkts” your shopping cart\, then use the drop-down menu to add additional tickets to your shopping cart before checking out. \nTicket Confirmation All ticket purchasers will be sent an email confirmation within 2 business days of purchase.
